A 1970 Mercedes-Benz 600 SWB limousine (above), one of a pair owned by the the late, great Elvis Presley , will be on offer at Bonhams ' Important Motor Cars and Fine Automobilia sale at Mercedes-Benz World in Surrey, UK on December 6. Estimated at about $230,000 - $310,000, it's one of only a handful of cars that the King of Rock and Roll ever registered in his name. Presley used the car which was based at Graceland for a number of years before giving it to a friend in Memphis . Restored to a very high standard in powder blue paint with a cream leather interior, it's an important example of an iconic motorcar that was much favored by celebs of the era; other VIP 600 owners included John Lennon , Hugh Hefner , Elizabeth Taylor , Aristotle Onassis and Fidel Castro. At one time, the front doors of the car featured Elvis' famous TCB Lightning Bolt logo (for "Takin' Care of Business") in gold leaf.

Mercedes-Benz has codenamed its latest suite of driver convenience aids "Magic," and the automaker will soon introduce a Magic Carpet Magic Body Control suspension technology and a Magic Sky Control roof tech. Sadly, there are no wizards nor Tinkerbells involved in any of this, just a whole bunch of electro-hydraulic and magnetorheological engineering.

Magic Body Control is the next generation of Active Body Control. Created with the help of ZF, the system of bushings atop the strut towers neutralizes wheel and body movements at two different frequencies. Daimler's testing indicates that MBC reduces 80 percent of unsavory suspension reverberations. It will show up on the S-Class and CL-Class in 2013.

Magic Sky Control will be seen as soon as next year on the new SLK . Working like photochromatic sunglasses that get darker in the sun, a magnetorheological glass offers a range of opacity from "near totally clear" to "dark blue." It doesn't alter the form of the roof and can be applied to any window, so expect to see this new development work its way through Mercedes-Benz's lineup. This technology could be used around a car's entire greenhouse and perhaps obviate the need for sun visors.

Those in the know know Brabus as one of the premier Mercedes-Benz tuners in the world, offering a range of accessories and modifications for anything and everything wearing that famous silver star on the nose. Now Brabus has turned its attention to the top-of-the-line SLS AMG .

The first thing you may notice are those giant wheels. They measure 20 inches in the front and 21 in the back, but they're only the start of it all. Brabus is also offering new front and rear bumpers and side vents made of carbon fiber, a titanium exhaust system and a variety of interior modifications. The sky is the proverbial limit, but the Gullwing supercar is a pretty good starting point as it is.

Mercedes-Benz has just launched a significantly enhanced version of its mbrace iPhone application. Mbrace is a package of services similar to General Motors' OnStar that provides automatic 911 calls in the event of an accident, remote unlocking and other services. When it was first introduced last year the mbrace application was the first to actually integrate with the vehicle telematics system to enable many of those same services such as the remote locking/unlocking, plus vehicle and dealer location.

The new version adds instant access to Mercedes-Benz Concierge services. A tap of the screen gives the Mercedes driver instant access to an advisor to help find restaurants or hotels and send directions straight to the phone and car. When calling roadside assistance through the application, the location information is automatically transmitted to the help center. Subscribers to the mbrace service can download the application from the iTunes app store.

Mercedes-Benz and its partners at Hughes Telematics have released an updated version of its Mbrace app for the iPhone, and 2.0 brings along a new line of location-based services.

In addition to the usual array of safety and convenience features (locking and unlocking doors, finding the Benz in a parking lot, etc.), the app now includes Mercedes-Benz' Concierge service which can pull down everything from driving directions and traffic updates to movie times and restaurant listings and then ports them directly into the navigation system. The Roadside Assistance program has also undergone a rework and Mbrace Plus subscribers can download it now from the App Store . Full details in the press blast below the fold .

It was only a matter of time before Brabus got around to turning its attention to the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG . The German tuner has given the Silver Arrow's newest supercar the once over with a smattering of aesthetic additions both inside and out, as well as a few mechanical tweaks. Things get started with a carbon-fiber spoiler up front, as well as new fender vents made of the same light-weight material. A similar treatment crops up on the rear fascia, along with new titanium exhaust tips. Those tips are part of a full system that Brabus claims weighs a full 40 percent less than the stock pipes. Throw in a set of massive forged wheels (20 inches up front, 21 out back) and you've got the full package.

Inside, Brabus will be happy to custom tailor the SLS AMG interior to each customer's taste. A new ergonomic steering wheel comes along with stainless scuff plates with an illuminated Brabus logo, though beyond that it's up to the buyer to decide on what type and color leather strikes their fancy. Airstream , maker of the iconic "silver bullet" travel trailer, has gone far beyond its design beginnings. The company recently announced the debut of its 2011 Interstate 3500 Class B touring coach. The 2011 Airstream 3500 Interstate is built on a Mercedes-Benz chassis. It has seating for eight, a kitchen, bathroom, and a convertible lounge area that at night becomes a bed for two. The bucket seats in the cockpit swivel to face a removable table that seats four at mealtime, and a 19" flat panel HD LCD/DVD provides on-board entertainment. The galley has a small convection-microwave oven, two-burner cook top and a 3.1-cubic-foot refrigerator is cooled by an AC/DC compressor that uses 90 percent less power than conventional RV models. In 1992, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche briefly entered into a love affair that would produce one very special offspring: the Mercedes-Benz 500E. The car was to become the godfather of all super sedans, packing a 5.0-liter V8 with a staggering (for the time) 322 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque. Bolted to a four-speed automatic gearbox, the engine could scoot the big four-door to 60 mph in a mere 6.1 seconds. Something tells us that those power numbers were a little conservative. But where does Porsche come in to this dance?

Germany's sportscar manufacturer was responsible for working the sheetmetal of the 500E into the shape you see above. Those healthy fender arches were all massaged into place by the gurus at Porsche before the body was shipped off to Mercedes-Benz for paint and final assembly. Once done, the whole kit and caboodle was shipped back to Porsche for final inspection. Needless to say, this was an incredibly limited production vehicle, with the two companies only creating around 500 examples per year.

This particular car has a grand total of 587 miles on the clock, having spent the fair majority of its years tucked away in a museum. Bidding is at $35,200 with the reserve not met and less than 8 hours to go as of writing. Follow the jump for jazz-tastic video walk around and check out pics in the gallery below.

In 2004, Mercedes-Benz kick-started a whole new automotive genre with the debut of the CLS. Now that the CLS has inspired a whole slew of competitors including the Audi A7 and the upcoming BMW Gran Coupe. Next month at the Paris Motor Show, Mercedes will launch the second generation of the four-door coupe that retains the basic roof profile while changing everything else.

The look of the new CLS was previewed last April at the Beijing Motor Show in the form of the sporty-wagon Shooting Break concept. Up front, the CLS has a adopted the more upright grille design that we first saw last year on the gull-wing SLS AMG. Like most other recent premium cars , the CLS has strings of LEDs for running lamps and turn signals. However, even the headlamps are now comprised of the low-power, long-life lighting. The flanks of the CLS now have a much more sculpted and muscular look than before with arched rear fenders that are similar to the new E-Class.

Inside, the CLS features a further evolution of other recent Mercedes designs and like the E-Class features an LCD display in the center of the speedometer to provide a variety of information to the driver. So far Mercedes hasn't announced any powertrain information but we can expect to see the latest direct injected V6 and V8 engines in the U.S. with European models also getting a variety of diesels.

Thailand's Pariya Junhasavasdikul stretched his lead in the 60,000-dollar Mercedes-Benz Masters Malaysia Friday on a day which saw the cream rise to the top with some brilliant low scoring.

Pariya, the leader by one at the start of the day, opened up a three-shot advantage after carding a third round six-under-par 66 at Kota Permai Golf and Country Club.

He leads on 13-under-par 203 from Singapore's Mardan Mamat who stormed back into contention with a 65.

Surprise, surprise - Mercedes-Benz is working on an AMG version of its next-generation CLS-Class coupe sedan. Our spies recently caught this prototype out and about, and underneath all of that cladding is what we imagine to be an immensely attractive, steroid-enhanced version of the new CLS body. We'll take one in black, please.

Shapely lines aside, the most important part of any AMG car is what's under the hood, and the CLS AMG will doubtlessly pack wallop. Expect Benz's new 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 to be under the bonnet, as this will rapidly become standard spec for Benz's V8-powered AMG cars. We've already read about this mill in the new S63 and CL63 , so expect the CLS to bring around 540 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque to the table, though we assume that an upgraded performance package will be available, increasing these output numbers.

We're on the edge of our Recaros for this one, folks. But until the final tweaks have been made, we'll have to settle for these spy shots. See for yourself in the high-res gallery below.

That image above speaks for itself. All you really need to know is that this isn't Dubai, Russia or even Germany - it's right here in Monterey for classic car week. You can probably identify the Mercedes-Benz inside that shiny wrapper on your own, but just in case you've recently taken an amnesia-inducing blow to the head, it's the SLS AMG GT3 - the race version of the company's new gullwing sports car. There's something to be said for having a mirror with you wherever you go, but this is a bit extreme. No matter, we think it looks amazing, even if it is just a wrap and not a polished car that's been stripped of its white paint to shed precious ounces before a race. Chawalit Plaphol cruised to a wire-to-wire victory Saturday in the Mercedes-Benz Masters Singapore at Laguna National Golf and Country Club.

The sweet-swinging Thai fired a final round two-under-par 70 to win by five shots from his teenage compatriot Panuphol Pittayarat and Singapore's Lam Chih Bing.

Panuphol carded a 69 and at the age of 17 showed that he is one of the most exciting young golfers in the region.

Lam, who was also second in this event in 2008 and fifth last year, shot a 66.

The 2002 through 2010 Mercedes-Benz G-Class is equipped with covers for the front turn signals - added for style as much as protection. Undoubtedly, many owners of the blocky SUV have never given the covers a thought, but the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has and it's been deemed unworthy of Federal Standard 108.

If you're wondering, that's the standard that covers "lamps, reflective devices and associated equipment." In this case, NHTSA claims that the cover could "impact over time the signal's ability to meet the minimum requirements of FMVSS 108." In other words, the cover could inhibit the visibility of the signal.

If you're one of the 3,522 G-Class owners affected by this recall, you'll be notified to bring your $100,000 off-roader to a Mercedes dealer, where they'll install a new turn light unit that works better with the grill cover. Hit the jump to read over the NHTSA press release.

Despite its combined rating of 50 miles per gallon, the Toyota Prius is reportedly not the best hybrid to buy if you want to recover the extra money spent on that battery and electric motor through fuel savings. Surprisingly, that honor falls to the Mercedes-Benz S400 hybrid . How is it that an $88,000 car luxury car with a 15 kilowatt mild-hybrid system can be a better value than the $22-30,000 Prius?

As is so often the case, the answer depends on the question you ask. The question asked by the British Columbia Automobile Association (BCAA) comes down to how much extra you pay for a hybrid over its conventional gas-powered equivalent compared to how much you save in fuel over five years of ownership.

The ace in the hole for the Mercedes-Benz S400 hybrid is that it's the cheapest S-Class currently offered in North America by several thousand dollars, which means that you save money before you even drive it off the dealer's lot. It's currently the only hybrid offered that is less expensive than its nearest non-hybrid equivalent. BCAA estimates that the S400 will save the owner about $5,000 in reduced fuel and purchase costs over five years, and that's all gravy since you're not paying a premium for the hybrid experience.

Chrome has its place on the automobile, arguably more than anywhere else. But within reason, we'd assert. Yet owners of Mercedes-Benz automobiles - the top-shelf performance models, especially - have exhibited a unique tenacity for covering their entire cars in the stuff. Whether it's the Mercedes-powered McLaren grand prix cars or the SLRs in Dubai, chrome seems to have a unique way of spreading across the German vehicles. And the latest comes straight from the Father Land itself.

A promotional tool for the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation , this latest SLS GT3 race car was dipped in the shiny stuff and put on display at the recent German Grand Prix at the Hockenheimring, "mirroring" the finish on the foundation's sponsored DTM C-Class touring car. The organization, supported by Mercedes-Benz, promotes athletics as a solution for youth issues.

Drop the term "Big Benz" in conversation and most people assume you're talking about the Mercedes-Benz S-Class . While the full-size flagship sedan has - deservedly - earned that moniker over the years, when it comes to sheer size and volume, the GL-Class is truly Benz' behemoth. But don't take that as a negative. The GL350 Bluetec, the automaker's diesel-powered variant of its seven-passenger full-size sport utility vehicle, has plenty going for it. Under the hood is a torque-laden, fuel-efficient diesel, and after a week pulling family duty, we emerged impressed. Find out why after the jump.

Bigger is better, right? That's been the prevailing wisdom in the automobile market, but consumers of luxury goods know better. Case in point: the newest Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG.

For the 2011 model, Mercedes has swapped out the enormous 6.2-liter V8 for a more efficient - and more powerful - 5.5-liter twin-turbo V8 with direct injection and fuel-saving start-stop engine management, coupled to the company's latest multi-clutch transmission. The result is 571 horsepower instead of 518, a four-and-a-half second sprint to sixty and improved fuel economy. Now that's our kind of downsizing.

Engine downsizing has now come to the almost top-of-the-line Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG with the adoption of AMG's new twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8. The new direct-injected V8 bumps output up from a mere 518 horsepower to 571 horsepower along with generating 663 pound-feet of torque between 2,250 and 3,750 rpm. That's sufficient to propel this behemoth to 62 mph in just 4.5 seconds in normal trim or 4.4 seconds if you opt for the AMG sports package.

The 2011 S63 also swaps out its previous torque converter automatic transmission for the multi-clutch unit from the SL63, a move which should lend it a more sporting feel. Just as other automakers get both performance and efficiency benefits from boosted direct-injected engines, the S63's combine fuel economy numbers have jumped from 16.3 miles per gallon (U.S.) to 22.4 mpg on the EU test cycle. The EPA numbers aren't yet available, but we would expect a similar real-world increase from the 2010 model's 14 mpg, though perhaps a bit smaller since the EPA's testing methodology won't show any benefits from the S63's new automatic start-stop feature. The annual Mercedes-Benz Polo Challenge kicked off in the Hamptons last weekend as the sport's greatest athletes competed for one of polo 's most treasured prizes. The 2010 Mercedes-Benz Polo Challenge at Blue Star Jets Field will run for six weeks and as always is expected to attract a great crowd of celebs and VIPs. In addition to Mercedes and Blue Star Jets this season's partners and sponsors include Patron tequila, Stella Artois, Zino Platinum Cigars , Crumbs Cupcakes and Bakery, the Financial Times , Susan Foster Jewelry and Hamptons Magazine. Those with access to the coveted VIP tent this year can preview SWAGG, an upcoming mobile application allowing consumers to purchase, exchange and redeem gift cards from their phone.
