Anne Hathaway's New Short Haircut: Yay or Nay? (PHOTOS)

Anne Hathaway may have taken some inspiration from Emma Watson's new short 'do, as the Devil Wears Prada powerhouse has chopped off her brunette locks in favor of a cropped hairstyle. Hathaway was seen with her new look on the set of One Day in Paris, France. She's sharing the screen with Patricia Clarkson and Jim Sturgess in Day. So what do you think of the new, short-haired Anne? Digging it or wish she'd kept it long? Vote in the poll below and sound off in the comments! www.celebuzz.com | 8/31/10 6:41 PM

Letter to Cordoba Center on Behalf of a Former 'Slave'

By Mark Gonzales

Prelude:
I. The three century old remains of 20,000 African men, women, children former slaves
were discovered after the clean up of the World Trade Center's collapse.
II. Between twenty and thirty percent of all stolen Africans brought to America as slaves
were Muslim.
A Letter on behalf of Cordova Center by one such “slave”

Bismillah
Is an unspoken song on the tongues of the forgotten
ever wonder where will you pray when your skin has abandoned you
or what religion is your skeleton

A note for Manhattan city residents & Mr. President:
if cemeteries have zip codes, air mail this poem to my mother
courtesy of a masjid wings holding my father’s tear.

New York: have you forgotten cities are built not by steel but bones
that breath is turquoise colored accessory of skeletons
wearing mahogany skin as Friday prayer best

Bedstuy bones have a Project Runway dreams - runaway from the projects.
Tired of being told their shade is out of season by men in midnight blue suits
attempting to tie a two-thumb thick bow tie noose around their neck.
          Strange Fruit is back
the new and the old Black
       in time for spring season
      Muslims again the designs
   breathing             chest heaving
swinging from government branch limbs.

Dear America: I interrupt your Tea Party
   with reminders of ancestral legacy
that picked the very leafs you sip.
They say thirty percent of all slaves stolen from Africa were Muslim
         denied prayer on ships
          lynched and mocked
      whips for the worshipping
         shot for salaat

slaves to the dollar: enslaving slaves of Allah

When you built the World Trade Center over our cemeteries
did Senegalese mother’s hold drum circle protest at construction companies
for the steel saliva you layered on their children’s coffins?

New York City’s living pretty luxurious brag
how little skin they own
that one can see their bones through rib cage as if Prada
fashioned design mannequins after auction blocks melanin.
While in 2002, twenty thousand African slaves were discovered
underneath the cat walk modeling states of decay
in basement of today what is called the World Trade Center.

              Slaves            Models.
                         both
                   believe in God
One:
tolerated for invoking the name in anorexia’s reverse communion
practices Ramadan 365 days a year
stomach lining sacrifice offering to porcelains altars
in city subsidized stalls and clubs.

Other:
is child hiding with no one seeking
holding song of Quran In decomposed lungs for three centuries
the sum of Saladin’s sons and daughters under one hundred three steel exhales
separated from the ummah by a cracked twin tear
only homage to memory street cipher testimony
a windmill break dance spin cycles of seven
for circles never made around the ka’ba in Mecca.

Cordoba: thank you for daring to call adhan
in a den of lions illiterate to love.
They call our cemetery “Ground zero”
de facto nicknaming us en la tierra negative
below
absence of value

America: tell us
in this    space    moment     century
as you stand over our grave
that 20,000 spirits of Muslim African
slaves still do not have a right
or a place to pray.

New York:
Your building zones built homes upon our bones
Must you again deny us in death our rights you denied us in life.
We, deserve after three centuries to finally say

Bismillahir rhaminir rahim

Know our prayers end as they always do.

Emmy focus on feet, starring Rita Wilson and Thomas Jane
Witness two ends of the foot-fashion spectrum from Sunday night's Primetime Emmy Awards festivities in Los Angeles. At left, the feet of one Rita Wilson, whose shoes continued the chunky crystal look of her Prada dress, and whose husband, Tom Hanks, dropped the F-bomb loud and proud to media backstage and then promptly apologized, which was almost unnecessary, as it had been a pretty amusing F-bomb. All the Rage loved Rita's look, though others disagreed. On the right, the feet of one Thomas Jane, star of HBO's "Hung," who's known for his alternative-footwear (or no-footwear) habit. The Emmys Rundown

The 62nd annual Primetime Emmy Awards opened with a Glee-inspired performance of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run" starring host Jimmy Fallon as the Boss and a who's who of the evening's nominees, including Tina Fey, Lea Michele, Jane Lynch, and the dirty-dancing duo of Jon Hamm and Betty White (the year's by-now ubiquitous mascot). As Fallon—who soon swapped his blue-collar Springsteen drag for Tom Ford—put it, "It's been a phenomenal year in TV." The ceremony itself moved along fairly snappily—we especially appreciated the slug at the bottom of the screen announcing "George Clooney in 17 minutes."

But if the relatively brisk pace was refreshing, the evening's fashions stuck to the contemporary awards-show script. One-shoulder gowns, as usual, were popular choices. Edie Falco's was Bottega Veneta and Joan Allen's was Michael Kors. Asymmetrical necklines weren't quite as prevalent as strapless ones, though, which turned up on Heidi Klum (seriously short Marchesa) and Claire Danes (sparkling Armani Privé). And so what if bared shoulders are predictable? We're betting any audience appreciation award would've gone to Sofia Vergara's buttercup yellow Carolina Herrera bustier dress (though Christina Hendricks' décolleté-baring Zac Posen might have been a close second).

Still, there were some risk takers. January Jones chose an electric blue Atelier Versace with cone-shaped bra cups; Tina Fey opted for jet embroidered Oscar de la Renta; Rita Wilson went with a Prada runway dress dripping in clear crystals; and Anna Paquin wore an Alexander McQueen black gown from Resort with bold gold shoulder embellishments. It had NBC’s commentators comparing her unfavorably to a matador—but really, what do they know? It brought some welcome edge to the red carpet.

Less edgy but indisputably chic was Julianna Margulies in a navy sequined L'Wren Scott tank dress. The Good Wife star also had the good fortune to receive a peck on the cheek from Clooney as she presented him with his Bob Hope Humanitarian Award, so we're calling it: She may have lost out to Kyra Sedgwick for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, but Margulies had the best night overall.

Faking It: Why Wearing Designer Knockoffs May Have Hidden Psychological Costs

Within just a few blocks from my office, street vendors will sell me a Versace T-shirt or a silk tie from Prada, cheap. Or I could get a deal on a Rolex watch or a chic pair of Ray-Ban shades. These are not authentic brand-name products, of course. They are inexpensive replicas. But they make me look and feel good, and I doubt any of my friends can tell the difference.

That’s why we buy knockoffs, isn’t it? To polish our self-image and broadcast that polished version of our personality to the world--at a fraction of the price. But does it work? After all, we first have to convince ourselves of our idealized image if we are going to sway anyone else. Can we really become Ray-Ban-wearing, Versace-bedecked sophisticates in our own mind, just by dressing up?

Bruce Willis and Danny Trejo in Talks to Join 'Violet & Daisy'
Back in April we heard about an interesting project called Violet & Daisy from Precious writer Geoffrey Fletcher, who was also looking to make his feature directorial debut by helming his own script. At the time Carey Mulligan (An Education) and Saoirse Ronan (The Lovely Bones) were attached as the lead characters (apparently that's still the case) but now 24 Frames reports Bruce Willis and Danny Trejo are in talks to join the project which combines the dark comedic elements of Pulp Fiction, the nature of a raunchy comedic duo from Superbad, and the female friendship/feminist empowerment of Thelma & Louise into one story. The Fashion Statement: Flight Attendant Wanted New Uniforms, Too

JetBlue's Steven Slater, the flight attendant who grabbed a couple brews, deployed the airplane slide and said, "take this job and shove it," has become a modern-day folk hero. He certainly set the bar high for how to quit a job with flair.

But did you know Slater was also on the JetBlue's uniform redesign committee? Not only that but he was Chairman, according to businessinsider.com. No doubt he had had it up to here with the JetBlue look, too.

How quickly glory fades. Ten years ago, JetBlue uniforms were the height of chic. Stan Herman designed the window-pane checked midnight blue shirts, midnight blue trousers and skirts. Male flight attendants, like Slater, probably wore a tie with a pattern made to look like a plane's tail fins. Female counterparts could either wear blue check or polka dot scarves.

In 2001, JetBlue's uniforms were recognized for being utilitarian and "Prada-esque" and won design awards and accolades, even one from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. The fashion school hosted an exhibition "Work in Uniform: Dressed for Detail" that featured JetBlue's uniforms.

But that was then. No telling what Slater and the committee have been planning. Or who they were collaborating with.

Brit Screenwriters Give BAFTA Lectures
BAFTA and the British Film Institute are hosting a series of screenwriter lectures throughout September. Peter Morgan (Frost/Nixon , September 20), David Hare (The Reader , September 9), Ronald Harwood (The Pianist , September 23), Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire , September 17), Christopher Hampton (Atonement , September 10) and Aline Brosh McKenna (The Devil Wears Prada , September 21) will all speak. The season has been organised by screenwriter Jeremy Brock, who says: “The idea is to celebrate screenwriters as collaborative authors of films, rather than adjuncts of the director’s vision.” Public perception that somehow director’s are the sole author of a movie has irritated screenwriters for years. Likewise, that possessory credit on movie credits. As the old joke about two screenwriters in a car driving past a director’s house goes: “Oh, there’s Joe Smith’s house ... Prada Launches Swing Sunglasses With Manga Contest

Prada launched its new Swing Sunglasses Collection at Joe's Pub in New York City this week. The capsule collection of sunglasses with swooped frames were designed to match the modern femininity of the Autumn/Winter 2010
collection. The new Swing Sunglasses combine a slightly 1950s cats -eye shape with the simple ultra-minimalist lines of Prada's 1990s fashions.

Prada, which is famous for its multiple collaborations with architects, designers, directors and photographers is also launching a "Manga Contest". Participants will include the best-known comic book-design schools along with independent illustrators. The participants will be asked to design a fantasy heroine who must wear Prada Swing sunglasses in the comic strip. The contest will be open to submissions from July 14 to August 31. The winner's heroines will become the protagonists of a Prada publication. The sunglasses sell for $245 and will be available in Prada stores in October.

The Prada Swing Sunglasses collection are also part of the brand's Autumn/Winter 2010 collection. The campaign for the collection was filmed by Steven Meisel and set to the rhythm of the song "Fever," as performed by KaTeY J. For more details on the fall campaign check out my colleague Jared Paul Stern's post earlier this week which includes the video for the collection.
